After using sunscreens that didn’t allow tanning but still darkened my melasma (poor UVA protection, not regulated in the US, I tried chemical and natural sunscreens) I started using Anthelios XL. It did the trick. No tan and no increase in melasma coloring. This new formulation is much better. No white cast, even when I slather it on my face, and a finish that just requires a touch of powder afterwards. I’m glad they improved the previous Anthelios XL.

This is a new formula from LRP, replacing the cult Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid. The new formula is not fragranced, has half the ingredients of the old one, leaves no white cast, and has a higher PPD. It’s a very thin fluid which can be hard to control when dispensing, but it absorbs very quickly and leaves a natural, semi-matte finish. Not greasy AT ALL. This sunscreen uses all organic filters, and is reef-safe. While it may seem pricey, 50 ml will give you up to 50 applications for the face.

Shiny but Great Protection
This sunscreen is very liquidy and comes in a small bottle, but it lasts 2-3 months with liberal application. It also has great UVA and UVB protection, while being water resistant. Some cons are that there is a very strong alcohol smell upon application and it leaves your face shine central afterwards. I've been combatting the shine by applying powder or mattifying primer after the sunscreen has set.
